Recordings never leave your phone

When you hold the record button, Telltail listens through the microphone and measures the sound as it arrives — the pitch, how long each call lasts, how often it repeats, how noisy or tonal it is. That measurement happens on the device. The audio is never uploaded, and it is never written to your phone’s storage.

A recording is kept in memory for the rest of the session so you can play it back on the result card. It is dropped when the app closes, and at most twelve are kept at a time. There is no way for us to reach it, because it never goes anywhere we could reach.

If you drag a recording away to cancel it, it is discarded immediately and nothing about it is kept.

What stays on your phone and nowhere else

Your pet’s name, species and age band, and your history of readings, are stored on the device only. We never receive them. Your pet’s name is never sent to any analytics or advertising service — it is free text and is very often a person’s name.

“Delete my data” in Settings removes all of it from the phone. Because there is no copy anywhere else, nothing survives it.

What we do receive

Three services receive something, and each receives only what it needs to do its job.

Mixpanel — product analytics

Which screens you open, when a reading completes, what kind of sound it was and how confident the app was, plus your device type, app version and language. A randomly generated identifier ties these together. No audio, no pet name, no free text — the app refuses to send them, and checks every value before it goes. Mixpanel processes this in the United States.

RevenueCat — subscriptions

Whether you have an active subscription, and the purchase events Apple reports. This is how the app knows to unlock, and how a purchase is restored on a new phone. Payment itself is handled by Apple; we never see your card.

Supabase — app configuration

The app reads a small configuration file so we can adjust settings without shipping an update. It is the same file for everyone and the app sends nothing about you in order to read it.

We do not track you

Telltail does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and does not ask permission to, because there is nothing it would do with the answer. No advertising identifier is read, and nothing the app collects is used for advertising.

Accounts

Telltail does not create accounts. There is no sign-up, and you never need one: your subscription is tied to your Apple ID, not to an account with us.

There is a sign-in screen, for accounts that already exist — today that means accounts we create by hand, such as the one Apple’s review team uses to see the app without making a purchase. If you sign in, your email address and password go to Supabase, which hosts our authentication, and we read one flag that says whether that account has access. Nothing about your pets or your readings is sent or stored there.

Children

Telltail is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Your rights

You can delete everything the app holds at any time from Settings. You can revoke the microphone permission in iOS Settings at any time; the app tells you what it can no longer do rather than failing silently.

Changes

When the app starts doing something new with data, this page changes in the same release, not afterwards. Accounts, crash reporting and advertising attribution are planned and are not in this version; each will appear here when it ships.
